The Holly and the Ivy,
When they are both full grown,
Of all the green that is in the wood,
The holly bears the crown-

OH THE RISING OF THE SUN,
AND THE RUNNING OF THE DEER-
AND THE TURNING OF THE WINTERTIDE,
SWEET SINGING ALL CAN HEAR-

The holly grows a berry,
As red as any blood,
And the ivy grows on the solid rock,
Evergreen through winter’s flood-

The holly bears a prickle,
As sharp as any thorn,
And the ivy bears all the life of Spring,
Til the sun has been reborn-

The holly and the ivy,
The Lady and the Lord,
They will comfort and protect us all,
As the Cauldron and the Sword-
